Algae are microscopic forms of plant life that can multiply quickly in pool water, to turn your pool into a pond. Although chlorine will help to prevent algae, it should be supported with algaecide. We recommend Super Algaecide as the best product to use in most cases (this is included in the chemical kits). After filling your pool with water, an inital dose of Super Algaecide should be applied. The level should then be topped up by a small maintenance dose each week. The correct dose is on the product label.
If at anytime you do get algae growing in your pool, then Super Algaecide can be used in conjunction with Granular Shock Chlorine, to destroy it. The correct dose for shock treatment is on the product label. However, if you have a big problem with algae and have a paper cartridge filter, it will unfortunately often be necessary to empty your pool, scrub the sides to remove any algae residue and refill your pool, treating it with algaecide from the beginning. Otherwise, the algae will quickly clog your filter.
If you already have multifunctional chlorine tablets, please note that
these already contain algaecide. However, you may also wish to consider Super
Algaecide to boost the levels if your pool is looking a bit green.
This section also includes forms of concentrated algaecide that can see
your pool through the Summer or Winter months. However, please note that the
algaecides designed for the Winter are generally meant to be used with in-
ground pools. We recommend packing away and storing above ground pools during
the colder months.
